The objective of these classes is to improve physical and emotional well being through different meditation techniques. These techniques are not only validated by recent clinical and neurobiological research, but also have been around for thousands of years. Perhaps their longevity is an indication of their efficacy. The class will combine different yogic meditation techniques of ancient Tantric yoga with Ayurvedic (traditional Indian Medicine), and Sufi practices. These techniques include; concentration practices, Vipassana (mindfulness/insight oriented), Pranayama (breath techniques, Bija Mantras (root mantras chant), and energy based practices. Each class starts with a discussion of principles, and benefits of simple meditation techniques. During the discussion phase of the session, neurobiological and emotional benefits of each technique will be discussed such as; stress reduction, anxiety and depression reduction, improve attention & concentration, and improve emotional regulation and well being. The discussion will be followed by 15-20 minutes of practice,and we will close the session by questions and feedback for the session. Please bring your favorite pillow, meditation cushion, blanket, or anything else you need to be comfortable.
